Cyclanthera pedata

Strongly climbing cucumber variety with horn-shaped fruits

The cyclanthere cucumber is also known as the Inca cucumber and is mainly grown in South American countries such as Peru and Argentina. However, due to its tolerance to the cold, it can also be grown here without any problems. It is a large, very robust, strongly climbing cucumber variety with hemp-like leaves. The inconspicuous, gently honey-scented flowers produce the green-yellow fruits that give it its name relatively late in the year. Young, small fruits taste like cucumber and can be eaten raw. When pickled, boiled or fried, they have a taste similar to artichokes. Older fruits develop hard black seeds, which must be removed before processing. The Inca cucumber can then be processed like zucchinis - cooked, stuffed, grilled or pickled, its versatility makes it an enrichment to any garden.
